Rifle School: Firing on the line, sharpening skills. It is most necessary to have a patrol rifle without gadgets, or add-ons that will not malfunction in personal combat. What a rifleman doesn't need are added-on gadgets that will malfunction when the chips are down, and when your stress level is significantly elevated. For those of us who are chronologically challenged (of older age) though, optics are an option to be considered.
I believe in the KISS principle, keeping things simple. I have found that simplicity and basic, sound rifle marksmanship skills combined with proficient gun handling skills, makes a rifleman truly dangerous. That is what we strive to produce.......armed and dangerous gunmen, who are dangerous to the right people.
Our goal is to terminate the threat.
We serve to maintain, preserve, protect, defend, and restore the peace when it has been destroyed! We are not hired to serve as crime prevention officers. We are hired to go to war, when peace and civilizaion must be restored. Today, our civilization is in the process of breaking down. We learned, during Katrina, that police agencies cannot always protect our liberties, and our lives. The police are our back up. But we must train, in order to protect ourselves. We are modern day worriors. And we must prepare ourselves not to become vicitims. I will not allow anyone to assault me, my family or other innocent and peaceful people around me.
We train responsible, highly proficient gunmen, who willl not hesitate to press the trigger and defend innocent, peaceful people. These are the folks that can be depended upon to do the job, when no one else is willing to step up to the plate. May they be ever victorious in their endeavors!
There are ten (10) Planning Principles which are used by the Personal Protection Group to Deter armed combat and to Disengage from armed confrontations, unless it is absolutely the last resort, and NECESSARY! They are as follows:
1. Observe the environment/ Assess the situation
2. Undetected movement. Movement should be unheard and unobserved, if at all possible. This affords you the advantage.
3. Closer is not better. The closer your position is to the opponent, the higher the stress level and the higher the danger level. Most opponents/offenders will either fight or flee. That is the flight or fight syndrome.
4. If you can see them, then they can see you. Even if you cannot see them, they can still see you. If you can be seen, you can be killed.
5. If disengagement is not possible, and you become engaged at/during contact, then move on your opponent's flank. Never approach anyone head on. And never, NEVER allow them to move on your flank.
6. Make them/let them, come to you. Never enter the KILL ZONE on your own volition, unless absolutely necessary. Never enter the FATAL FUNNEL of an entry way, from a lit background. You will silhoutte yourself, and will make an excellent target!
7. You must know the terrain in which you operate. Proper knowledge of the environment and terrain is important. And it may assist you in operational planning, with regards to dead zones, cover and concealment, and escape routes.
8. Operate and engage from a position of COVER, whenever possible. Remember that CONCEALMENT is not COVER! DO NOT crowd your cover.
9. WE always engage with the principle of Mass, when possible. This means never engaging an opponent (s) one on one. Always engage using superior mass and always use a cover unit for engagement, unless necessary. If you see one opponenet, ALWAYS think two, and that one may be hidden from view, using cover/concealment, from which to engage your position. Always assume that there is more than one primary opponent/assailant. ALWAYS look behind you.
10. DO NOT Negotiate with an opponent, in the face of an armed defensive encounter! WE talk only when we need to distract our opponent, and to divide our assailant's focus. NEVER NEGOTIATE! NEVER!
THERE are four (4) goals you must achieve in an armed confrontation. They are:
1. Divide your opponent's focus
2. Disrupt his plan.
3. Disable his body.
4. Destroy his will to fight.
